Work

I am Julien, a video-maker (direction, camera, editing) born in Paris and based in Dresden since 2018. My work is entirely devoted to social, ecological and cultural issues, with an ethics inspired by non-violent communication (without judgement or exclusion). My references in documentary cinema are Frederick Wiseman, Agnès Varda und Chris Marker, whose subjective approach always comes with an honest and responsible attitude.

Alongside my work as a documentary filmmaker, I am increasingly interested in the issue of cultural transmission, particularly among younger generations. In my film workshops, I encourage a critical eye without value judgement, and personal expression whatever the lack of means. All my projects are carried out with a view to encouraging all kinds of cultural and personal exchanges, including the least expected, and always within a framework of empathy and solidarity.

I work regularly with Martin Andersson, film director, jazz piano player and multi media artist. By combining different medias and artistic forms of expression he is constantly trying to find a holistic approach to arts and science.

Volunteering

As I feel the need to commit myself to a better society and I also love my work as a film-maker, I decided to do some voluntary work as part of my job. In practical terms, this means that I offer hours of work or advice to people or organisations who don't have enough money to pay the basic fees of someone in my profession. I may sometimes work exclusively on a voluntary basis or include a certain amount of voluntary time in an assignment I receive. I make this commitment conditional on matching my ethical principles, by supporting social causes and/or people who deserve more visibility.
